ISO/IEC Standard on Terminology for Renewable, Efficient Energy Proposed

As stated in the proposal's scope, the proposed standard will provide support for the metrics, calculation and assessment methods, and methodologies and best practices needed by policy makers, standardization technical committees working on energy efficiency and renewable energy sources, and other stakeholders.
Common international terms and definitions in the area of energy efficiency and renewable energy sources will provide a shared language for stakeholders, including suppliers, clients, regulators and others, according to the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
AFNOR said that the common terminology will facilitate actions at three levels including:
- Elaboration of regional and national regulations.
- Standard writing, coordination between the different technical committees, and standards understanding and application by users.
- Clarification of relations between providers and clients (in procurement, contracts and services).
If approved, the standard will be developed under an ISO/IEC joint project committee.
As the U.S. member bodies to ISO and the IEC, ANSI and the U.S. National Committee of the IEC (USNC) invite interested stakeholders to submit comments by Feb. 13, 2009.
The ANSI Virtual Technical Advisory Group for the ISO Technical Management Board Strategic Advisory Group on Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Sources will work cooperatively with the USNC/IEC Technical Management Committee Electronic Technical Advisory Group for the IEC Standardization Management Board Strategic Group #1 on Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Sources to consider all comments received.
Together, the groups will develop a recommended ANSI/USNC position and comments on this proposal.
The position and comments will then be sent to the ANSI ISO Council and the USNC/IEC Technical Management Committee for approval prior to being submitted to ISO and IEC.
