IEEE Revises Motor Standards for Nuclear Power Stations

The overall standard establishes criteria for the electric motors covered in nuclear power stations to demonstrate their ability to perform their intended safety functions under all conditions.
The IEEE also revised IEEE 649 - Standard for Qualifying Class 1E Motor Control Centers for Nuclear Power Generating Stations, to address new solid-state and other state-of-the-art equipment, address comments received and revise the format to match existing standards.
IEEE 649 describes the basic principles, requirements and methods for qualifying Class 1E motor control centers and their components under various conditions in accordance IEEE 323.
