CEN, CENELEC Release Energy Efficiency Standard - CEN EN 16001

CEN EN 16001 provides guidance to ensure that energy management becomes integrated into organizational business structures, giving organizations a single framework to help them establish the systems and processes necessary to improve energy efficiency.

The standard specifies the requirements for an energy management system to enable all types and sizes of organizations and companies everywhere in the world to develop and implement a policy, identify significant areas of energy consumption and target reductions.

CEN EN 16001 can be applied both independently or integrated with other management systems, such as quality and environment management.

The implementation of this standard will enable compliance with current and future legislation and regulations on greenhouse gas emissions and mandatory energy efficiency targets, according to CEN.

Testimonials from various companies and industries during the Sept. 10 launch event demonstrated that the application of CEN EN 16001 reduces energy usage and related costs.

The sitandard, formally issued on July 1, 2009, will be implemented by CEN and CENELEC members, who will be setting up events, conferences, workshops, seminars and training sessions during the coming months.
