Repsol-YPF planning exploration offshore Argentina
|
Repsol-YPF plans to drill three exploration wells in offshore Chubut Province and one in offshore Santa Cruz Province in the coming months. The announcement by the company's YPF subsidiary signals the long awaited beginning of offshore exploration in the San Jorge Basin and should entail the bringing in of a shallow water jack-up into Argentine waters. The same equipment will also drill wells in the Austral Basin. It is thought that YPF plans to drill three exploration wells on its CGSJM-01 Contract in the offshore San Jorge Basin for the Aurora project, in addition to one or possibly two wells on the E-2 license in the offshore Austral Basin with ENARSA in the Helix Project. The rig might arrive as early as in the next few weeks. Drilling will be in water depths of about 100m, with drilling depths of less than 2,500m anticipated.
