Intergas Piu encounters gas shows at Adriatic Sea appraisal - Italy

"Significant" gas shows have been reported at an appraisal of a 1987 discovering being drilled by Intergas Piu Srl, the wholly owned subsidiary of Mediterranean Oil & Gas. Spudded in March 2008 by the Transocean "G. H. Galloway" J/U, Ombrina Mare 2 was drilling at a depth of 1,900m in the Middle to Upper Pliocene sands at last report. The gas shows were recorded in this secondary objective between 1,500m and 1,800m, showing good correlation with the sands that yielded 6.71 MMcfg/d at the Ombrina Mare 1 well. The Intergas well is being drilled in 21m of water on the B.R269.GC exploration permit in the Adriatic Zone B, about 1km east of the discovery, which also tested 236 b/d of 19° API oil from 2,117m to 2,146m in the Oligo-Miocene carbonates. Mediterranean says 2P reserves of 5 MMbo have been certified, with between 23 and 60 MMbo possible. It is the company's intention to fast track the development of the Ombrina Mare 1 oil and gas discovery. The Pliocene gas could be used for gas lift for the oil production. In the future, two satellite oil leads (Ombrina South and Ombrina South-east) and three gas prospects (BS 1, 2, 3) could be drilled and incorporated into the development scheme. The 271-sq km permit is located in the Apulian Platform-SE Peri-Apenninic Foredeep.
