IHS Announces Release of Updated Environmental Tool HMMS 4.0.956
Enhances Hazardous Material Management Solution with Improved Reporting, Interface and Nationalization Functions, and New Air Emission Module
ENGLEWOOD, CO (February 1, 2008) — IHS Inc. (NYSE:IHS), a leading global source of critical information and insight, today announced the release of a major upgrade to its HMMS (Hazardous Materials Management System) product. This release, HMMS 4.0.956, represents a significant enhancement in the functional envelope of the HMMS application, including the following six key feature sets:
-
Updated Biennial Report with electronic reporting capability.
-
Nationalized Product Features to support OCONUS bases in Europe and the Pacific Rim.
-
Re-architected hand-held data collectors to now include support for Windows Mobile/CE devices as well as the original Palm. This will pass certain security requirements of “No Desktop Software” as well as allow better flexibility for synchronization in the field. This feature set will be field tested by the U.S. Coast Guard.
-
Highly flexible web based XML interface for SAP and other corporate ERP/HR/Financial/Purchasing systems needing to exchange real-time data with HMMS. The use of this interface to exchange data with SAP is expected to be field tested at the Tobyhanna U.S. Army Depot.
-
The ability to share MSDS and other static data across multiple using sites within the same military service. This will allow for a central point of management for shared data across multiple sites within a military service. This can lead to better data quality, more centralized control, and service-wide database mining and reporting.
-
This release also introduced a new module focused on collecting, validating, processing and reporting air emissions data. This new air emissions module is expected to complement the existing materials and waste modules, and will be field tested at the Yuma U.S. Marine Corps Air Station.
The HMMS product has been in use at various U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) installations for the last eight years and the current user base stands at 93 distinct user sites.
“We are pleased to deliver enhancements to the HMMS product because it plays such a critical role in the safety and environmental protection for installations around the world,” said Paul Evenson, IHS senior vice president, Parts Management Worldwide. “The enhancements show our customers we value their feedback and our commitment to delivering the leading hazardous material management solution.”
