Jerre L. Stead, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman
Jerre Stead became Executive Chairman of IHS Inc. December 1, 2000, after retiring from Ingram Micro in May of 2000, where he served as Chairman and CEO. Jerre assumed the additional role of CEO for IHS Inc. on September 20, 2006.
He joined Ingram Micro in 1996 with a proven track record and is characterized as having great vision and global expertise. Mr. Stead took Ingram Micro public on November 1, 1996. Under his leadership Ingram Micro grew from an eight billion dollar company to a 30 billion dollar company doing business in over 120 countries. The company was number 41 in the Fortune 500 for the year 2000.
Mr. Stead began his career in 1965 at Honeywell, Inc., where he spent 21 years and held a number of executive management positions in the United States and Europe.
In 1987, he was named President and COO of Palatine, an Illinois based Square D Company, a leading manufacturer of electrical distribution and factory automation products. He was promoted to Chairman, President and CEO in 1988 and served in that capacity through 1991.
In 1992, Mr. Stead was named Chief Executive Officer of AT&T Global Business Communications Systems. He was promoted to Executive Vice President of AT&T and Chairman and CEO of AT&T Global Information Solutions (NCR Corporation) in 1993. He was a member of AT&T Management Executive Committee. During this time Mr. Stead was also the chairman of NCR Japan, a publicly traded company.
Mr. Stead became chairman and CEO of the Legent Corporation January 2, 1995. He led the sale of the company for over $2.2 billion in May of 1995 and resigned upon the successful merger in September of 1995.
Stephen Green, Senior Vice President, General Counsel & Secretary
Steve Green joined the legal department of IHS parent corporation in 1981 and became chief legal officer for IHS in 1996. Steve is responsible for IHS legal guidance and counsel including mergers and acquisitions as well as legal and regulatory compliance. In addition, Steve provides legal counsel for IHS regarding protection of IHS intellectual property and contractual relationships arising from the company’s global business.
Prior to joining IHS, Steve worked in various capacities in the New York legal community, including a law clerkship for a New York State Supreme Court Judge. Prior to the clerkship, Steve was an associate in the Corporate department of Kelley, Drye & Warren, a large New York City law firm whose corporate practice included acquisitions and divestitures, joint ventures, financings and other corporate legal matters.
Steve holds a bachelor's degree from Yale University and a law degree from Columbia Law School.
Scott Key, President and Chief Operating Officer of Jane’s Information Group; IHS Senior Vice President of Corporate Marketing
Scott C. Key serves as president and COO of Jane’s Information Group, which IHS acquired in June 2007. He had served as Senior Vice President of Corporate Strategy and Marketing since September 2006. Key brings over 20 years of diverse international and U.S. experience to IHS, with responsibilities spanning executive and operational management positions, product management, software and technology development, large scale computing, sales and marketing.
Prior to joining IHS in 2003, he served as a senior executive with GX Technology focusing on Business Development, Marketing and Strategic Initiatives, and from 2000 to 2002 as executive vice president & COO for NuTec Energy Services Inc., both of Houston. Key served as deepwater development manager for Vastar Resources from 1998 to 2000, successfully initiating Vastar's deepwater reservoir appraisal and development efforts, and was employed by Phillips Petroleum from 1987 to 1998, where he held a variety of positions of increasing scope and responsibility, including strategic planning director in Corporate Strategic Planning, and domestic and international roles in exploration, field development, as well as research and development. He began his career in technology development in a research capacity, specializing in reservoir characterization and modeling. Prior to joining Phillips, he provided technology development consulting to Amoco Production Company and Mobil Oil.
A frequent speaker and author, Scott has written on numerous subjects covering a range of management, technology and development topics. Scott has also achieved certification in numerous technical and professional courses. He is fluent in both English and Norwegian, and has partial fluency in Danish, Swedish.
A graduate of the University of Washington in Seattle, Key earned bachelor of science degrees in both physics and mathematics in June 1985. He earned his master's degree in geophysics from the University of Wyoming in 1987, receiving Phi Kappa Phi honors.
Ron Mobed, Co-President & Co-Chief Operating Officer, IHS Inc.
Ron Mobed is co-President and co-COO of IHS. Previously, as President and Chief Operating Officer, Energy, Ron worked to transform our energy business to include critical technical information and strategic insights on everything from exploration and production, to LNG and European Gas supply, to alternative fuels, energy investment analyses and energy security. In order to better meet the needs of our customers, his strategic vision for the business led to a number of recent acquisitions by IHS including Geological Consulting Services (GCS), Exploration Data Services (EDS), and John S. Herold, Inc.
As well as his general role, Ron is currently leading the charge at IHS to expand our business in Asia, seizing the tremendous growth opportunity the region represents. In addition, Ron is re-aligning our worldwide sales organization at IHS, creating new Global Account Managements Teams that support all products and services. The teams are focused on bringing value to our customers with innovative solutions through a single point of focus.
Ron has a history of success in growing and transitioning businesses through innovation and by focusing on customer needs. He has a wide range of U.S. and international experience, with a diverse background in operations, product management, software development, marketing, professional services and information technology. Ron has been instrumental in helping the company transition its offerings and expanding its services to meet the evolving needs of the industry.
When Ron joined IHS in April of 2004, he brought with him 22 years of experience from Schlumberger where he served in multiple executive leadership roles including Vice President of GeoQuest Asia and Vice President and General Manager of Information Management for Schlumberger GeoQuest, as well as other sales, marketing, consulting and management positions.
A frequent speaker and presenter on energy matters, Ron has appeared in worldwide business press and other media, has spoken at major energy conferences and has authored numerous papers.
Ron was awarded a master’s in Petroleum Engineering with distinction from Imperial College at the University of London in 1987 and received his bachelor’s degree in Engineering from Trinity College at the University of Cambridge in 1980.
John Oechsle, Senior Vice President & Chief Information Officer
John Oechsle joined IHS in July 2003 as Senior Vice President, Chief Information Officer. He is responsible for all Technology and Content Accumulation worldwide including Product Development, Product Architecture, Internal Business Applications, Infrastructure, Content Operation Centers and Data Accumulation. He brings to IHS experience in worldwide IT infrastructure standardization, e-business, and commercial product development as well as expertise in strategic IT enabled business planning, large program/project management, and technology business solutions.
Prior to IHS, John was the Company CIO, Vice President Information Management Worldwide, for Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics, a $1.5 billion Johnson & Johnson (J&J) company, where he was responsible for all information technology and e-business on a worldwide basis. Prior to Ortho, John established the Latin American business unit of Networking & Computing Services (NCS) for J&J and also served as the Latin American Executive Director. He has also held executive positions as Sr. Vice President, CTO for Land America Financial Group and Director, Global Information Management for Kellogg Company.
John holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Rutgers University in Camden, NJ, and is a graduate of the Tuck Executive Program at Dartmouth College's Amos Tuck School of Business Administration in Hanover, NH. John serves as the Chairman of the Board for CSIA, Colorado’s Technology Association. He also serves on the Industry Advisory Board for the University of Denver’s Computer Science and Engineering school, and on the Board for the University of Colorado’s Center for Information Technology and Innovation (CITI). John was named 2006 Technology Executive of the Year for the State of Colorado.
Jane Okun, Senior Vice President and Chief Customer Process Officer
Jane Okun was named to the newly created position of SVP and Chief Customer Process Officer in July 2007. In this role, she will be responsible for the implementation of a global ERP system which will replace all current billing and financial systems. She will also continue leading the company's investor relations and corporate communications activities worldwide. She is a seasoned corporate finance professional with 19 years of experience and expertise in investor relations, integrated communications, financial planning, financial analysis, corporate planning and accounting. Jane has held the top investor relations position at several firms including a number of Fortune 500 companies.
Prior to joining IHS in 2004, Jane was a partner with Genesis, Inc., a consulting firm that specializes in the areas of strategic positioning, investor relations, and integrated strategic communications. Previous to her tenure with Genesis, Jane headed investor relations at Velocom, Inc., MediaOne Group, and Northwest Airlines. Jane also held several management positions in corporate finance at both Northwest Airlines and American Airlines. She started her professional career as a Certified Public Accountant with Price Waterhouse in Detroit.
A native of New York City, Jane holds both a BGS and an MBA from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. She did a portion of her graduate studies at the Stockholm School of Economics. Jane serves on the boards of both the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce and the National Investor Relations Institute – Rocky Mountain Chapter. She was past President of the Denver Business Series and the founder of the University Of Michigan Business School Alumni Club Of Denver.
Jeffrey Sisson, Senior Vice President & Chief Human Resources Officer
Jeff Sisson is responsible for leading global human resources for the company, including organizational development, retention and human resources strategy development.
A 20-year human resources veteran, Jeff has extensive experience in a broad cross-section of leading global industries, including energy services, manufacturing and advanced technologies, where he developed best practices for global HR teams that translated into higher employee engagement, productivity and corporate reputation. Prior to joining IHS Inc., he held executive HR leadership positions at Eagle-Picher Industries, Snap-on Incorporated and Whirlpool. Jeff received his MLIR and his B.A. from Michigan State University.
Michael Sullivan, Executive Vice President & Chief Financial Officer
Mike Sullivan joined IHS in October 1999 as Senior Vice President & Chief Financial Officer, and was promoted to Executive Vice President and CFO in April 2006. Mike leads the worldwide finance organization, where he is responsible for overseeing all aspects of finance and accounting, tax and treasury.
Mike is very involved in setting business strategy, overseeing operations, actively participating in the Company’s corporate development efforts, and generally driving shareholder value creation.
Previously, Mike spent three years with the Coors Brewing Company, initially overseeing the corporate accounting function and later leading the corporate planning and analysis efforts for this $3B public company. Prior to Coors, he spent 10 years with Price Waterhouse in New York and Denver, where he managed the firm's participation in over 30 mergers and acquisitions and worked extensively with both public and private clients of that firm.
Mike holds a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and Accounting from the University of Iowa.
Jeffrey R. Tarr, Co-President & Co-Chief Operating Officer, IHS Inc.
Jeff Tarr was named co-president and co-chief operating officer of IHS Inc. in November 2007, with the newly created role illustrating the increasing integration of company operations as well as a growing cross-over customer base.
Previously, Mr. Tarr had been president and chief operating officer of the Engineering segment of IHS since joining the company in 2004. During his tenure, Mr. Tarr led significant improvement in the financial performance of that segment of the IHS business.
Prior to joining IHS, Mr. Tarr was Chairman and CEO of Hoover's, a publicly traded business information service provider. He joined Hoover's in May 2001, leading the company to profitability and strong double-digit growth by redefining Hoover's strategy, reducing costs and improving employee satisfaction. In March 2003, Mr. Tarr led the sale of Hoover's to Dun & Bradstreet (D&B). Upon completion of the acquisition, he was retained by D&B as president of the new subsidiary.
Mr. Tarr began his career with Bain & Company, a leading strategy consulting firm, based in its Paris office. Later he was a vice president and general manager with US WEST where he served on the executive team of the corporation's $1.5 billion revenue Yellow Pages publishing subsidiary (now Dex Media, a division of R.H. Donnelley) and led the creation of the company's leading Internet yellow pages business. During his career, Mr. Tarr also served as CEO of all.com, a provider of online technical support and led sales and marketing for an international entertainment software publisher.
Mr. Tarr holds a BA in Public and International Affairs from Princeton University and an MBA from Stanford University.
Richard G. Walker, Senior Vice President of Global Corporate Development & Strategy
Richard G. Walker joined IHS as Senior Vice President of Corporate Development in December 2006. Prior to joining IHS, Rich was Chief Operating Officer at Autobytel Inc., where he had also served as Executive Vice President of Corporate Development and Strategy since January 2003.
Previously, Mr. Walker served as Vice President for LoneTree Capital Management from August 2000 to December 2002. Prior to that, he was the Vice President of Corporate Development for MediaOne from April 1997 to July 2000. Prior to joining MediaOne, Rich had been with U S WEST since 1990, where he was Executive Director of Corporate Development and also held various leadership positions in investor relations, business development and strategic marketing. He began his career as a certified public accountant with Arthur Andersen & Co. in Atlanta, Georgia.
Mr. Walker graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in business from the University of Colorado and holds a master’s degree in business administration from the Executive Program at the University of Denver.
Daniel Yergin, CERA Chairman and Executive Vice President, IHS
Daniel Yergin is a highly respected authority on international politics, economics and energy. He is a Pulitzer Prize winner and recipient of the United States Energy Award for “lifelong achievements in energy and the promotion of international understanding.” He is both a world-recognized author and a business leader, as Chairman of Cambridge Energy Research Associates (CERA). With 200 employees around the world, CERA is one of the world's leading consulting and research firms in its field, and is one of the key companies within IHS, of which he is Executive Vice President
Dr. Yergin received the Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction for his work The Prize: The Epic Quest for Oil, Money and Power, which became a #1 national best seller and was made into an eight-hour PBS/BBC series seen by 20 million people in the United States. The book has been translated into 12 languages.
His subsequent book, The Commanding Heights: The Battle for the World Economy has received wide attention for its analysis and narrative of how the “world is changing its mind about markets and government.” The Wall Street Journal said, “No one could ask for a better account of the world's political and economic destiny since World War II.” It has been translated into 13 languages. As executive producer, Dr. Yergin led the team that turned it into a six-hour PBS/BBC documentary. The Washington Post described the series as “stunningly ambitious, brilliantly successful... No more important program for making sense of our life and times has been seen on the air in at least a decade and just possibly a good deal longer.” It received three Emmy nominations, a CINE Golden Eagle award and the New York Festivals Gold World Medal for best documentary. The series website won a BAFTA as a “milestone in the development of broadband content.”
Dr. Yergin and CERA Senior Director Thane Gustafson authored Russia 2010 and What It Means for the World, which The New York Times called “invaluable” and The Financial Times described as “extraordinarily intelligent.”
Dr. Yergin was awarded the Medal of the President of the Republic of Italy for combining “an understanding of the dynamics of the market with a broad view of the forces of geopolitics as he seeks to point the way to the positive outcomes for the world community.”
Dr. Yergin is CNBC's Global Energy Expert. He is a Trustee of the Brookings Institution, a member of the Board of the United States Energy Association and a member of the National Petroleum Council. He is vice chair of the new National Petroleum Council study Facing the Hard Truths About Energy. He also chaired the US Department of Energy's Task Force on Strategic Energy Research and Development.
Dr. Yergin is a Director of the U.S.-Russia Business Council, the Atlantic Partnership and the New America Foundation. He is the only foreign member of the Russian Academy of Oil and Gas, and is one of the “Wise Men” of the International Gas Union. He is a member of the Advisory Board of the Peterson Institute for International Economics and is on the Advisory Board to the Energy Initiative at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Dr. Yergin received his BA from Yale University, and his PhD from Cambridge University, where he was a Marshall Scholar.
